3 Tips & tricks to help you eat less
Researchers have found that external cues—such as the size of your plate, larger portion sizes, and location of food in your refrigerator—influence how much you eat, which foods you eat, how fast you eat, whether you enjoy what you eat, and more. Here are three tips and tricks to help you eat less and still feel satisfied!
#1: Just say “NO” to family-style dining
People eat more food if the serving dish is on the table. Keep the salad and vegetable dish on the table and leave everything else on the counter!
#2: Use smaller plates, cups and bowls
We tend to eat and drink more from larger containers. By downsizing your plates, cups and bowls, not only will you eat less, you won’t miss the extra calories you just saved.
- Serve meals and desserts on small dishes
- Portion ice cream or tortilla chips into 4 ounce soufflé cups
- For alcoholic beverages, use tall skinny glasses instead of wide, short glasses
#3: Keep nutritious foods front and center
You will eat the food that’s closest to you. So if fruits and vegetables take center stage and the leftover mac-n-cheese is towards the back of the refrigerator, you are more likely to grab the produce. Rearrange your refrigerator and pantry to set yourself up for success!
