What is Your Health Color

It’s easy to see inflammation when you cut your finger or skin your knee. The affected area begins to bleed and becomes red and swollen. This is called acute inflammation and is your immune system’s way of doing its job.

But what happens when your body’s immune response doesn’t shut off? This persistent inflammation—called chronic systemic inflammation—is totally different. It’s much more worrisome, especially because you can’t see it or feel it! It’s literally doing silent damage. Yikes! Unlike the repair that occurs during acute inflammation, chronic inflammation does not allow for this healing and can lead to serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Although it’s safe to assume most of us experience some level of inflammation, there’s a lot you can do to cool it down, including:

  • Getting enough sleep
  • Frequent exercise
  • Smoking cessation
  • Practicing stress-reduction techniques
  • Maintaining a normal body weight
  • Eating a healthy diet rich in nuts, vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fish
  • Eating fewer inflammatory foods

Since it’s impossible to take your insides out and see the effects of your lifestyle choices, I invite you to get into the daily habit of visualizing your Health Color. Your Health Color is a measure of how your current habits affect your potential disease risk.

Here is what each of the health colors represent:
