Raise your antioxidants with the flip of a switch

November 13th, 2012 | no comments

I eat three cups of vegetables and two cups of fruit every day…before 7 a.m. I’m not bragging or patting myself on the back, but understand that if I didn’t have a Vitamix, this would NEVER happen. I attended a wellness conference last month and one of the booths in the exhibit hall offered a scan of the carotenoid levels of the skin—which measures evidence of carotenoid antioxidant activity in the body. In case you didn’t know, carotenoids are an important category of antioxidants that are primarily responsible for the reds, oranges, and yellows we see in fruits and vegetables. I scored a 79,000 on a scale of 10,000 to 50,000+. Again, I’m not bragging, but if I didn’t have a Vitamix, this would’ve NEVER happened. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t be eating this amount of produce if I had to actually eat it. I love fruits and vegetables—don’t get me wrong—but vegetables can be sort of…boring.

What is a Vitamix?

A Vitamix is no ordinary blender. It’s a high-power blender that can whip up nutritious foods like fresh peanut butter, fruit and vegetable smoothies, hot vegetable soup and whole wheat bread dough. I’m not a spokesperson for Vitamix. They don’t pay me a cent. It happens to be a product I believe in because I’ve seen the results in my own health.

You have a duty to fuel your body with antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables, I don’t look at it as a choice, it’s my duty! It’s YOUR duty. If it’s unlikely that you’ll sit down and eat 3 cups of vegetables with a fork, make it easy on yourself!

A Vitamix isn’t cheap ($449 and up), but it’s an investment and…you get what you pay for. What is your health worth? Can you put a price tag on it?

My favorite Vitamix smoothie recipe:

8 ounces of milk (cow’s milk, soy milk, rice milk or almond milk)
1 scoop of whey protein powder
1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
1 cup of frozen berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries or raspberries)
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup raw carrots
2 cups raw spinach or kale
Put all ingredients in Vitamix blender and blend until smooth.
