Are YOU hungry?
Do you know what true hunger feels like? Merriam Webster defines hunger in two seemingly similar, yet very different ways:
- Definition #1: an uneasy sensation occasioned normally by the lack of food and resulting directly from stimulation of the sensory nerves of the stomach by the contraction and churning movement of the empty stomach
- Definition #2: a craving, desire, or urgent need for food
The first definition refers to actual hunger—what I call ‘Belly Hunger.’ Everyone knows what this feels like! We tend not to like this feeling and want it to go away as soon as possible. It’s an unmistakable sensation triggering you to go on the hunt for food. The second definition could refer to belly hunger or ‘Head Hunger’—eating to soothe your emotions.
Are you connected to your belly hunger as closely as you should be? Do you eat ‘just because?’ Do you feel the sensation of belly hunger or is it your ‘Head Hunger’ calling out? I invite you to take a closer look at why you are eating. Don’t change anything quite yet—awareness is the first step…but it’s a BIG one.
In the CONNECT phase of The Healthy YOU Program™, you will learn to control how much you eat—and distinguish between true hunger and “Head Hunger”—by using a hunger scale and “Head Hunger Tree.” This is what you call true freedom from calorie counting and dieting—because that is no way to live.
